What was digital switchover?
Digital TV switchover was the process of converting the UK’s terrestrial television system to digital. Analogue channels were switched off TV region by TV region and replaced with free-to-air digital TV and radio services (Freeview). Switchover extended Freeview coverage virtually to the whole of the UK and freed up airwaves for new services such as ultra-fast wireless broadband and mobile television.
Northern Ireland brought the switchover programme to a close on October 24 2012.
The Help Scheme closed to new applications on November 24 2012, one month after the final transmitter in Northern Ireland switched to digital. The Help Scheme will continue to provide aftercare support, for those people we have helped who are still within their 12 months aftercare period. Customers still entitled to aftercare support should call the free phone number 0800 40 85 935.
